True enough, as previously announced, the brand new Pebble Time devices are already up for pre-order on the Best Buy website starting today. The much awaited colored and touch screen smartwatches from one of the pioneers in wearables started out as a Kickstarter project, but now that the supporters have finally gotten theirs, they are opening up orders to the public, but only if you live or your delivery address is in the US. The rest of the world will have to wait a little longer.
Despite now using a different screen than its older models, Pebble Time promises that the battery life is not as bad as the other colored and touchscreen smartwatches in the market. That is because it uses color e-paper screen, which is still more battery friendly than others, even if it has an always-on screen display. It is 40.5 x 37.5 x 9.5mm and weighs at just 42.5g so it is lighter and curvier than the other Pebble smartwatches. The wearable also has a built-in microphone so you can reply to messages using voice commands and you can also dictate notes and to-do items onto your wrist.
There are three colors available in the Best Buy online store: Black, White, and Red. You can change the straps of your smartwatch easily, and any 22mm band will be able to fit it, including of course the Pebble smart straps. It also has a smart accessory port so developers can actually build sensors and stuff that can add functionality to your wearable.
Each Pebble Time costs $199 in this pre-order stage. That’s $40 more expensive than the Kickstarter price of course. But we don’t know if that will be the SRP or if they will still increase the price after the pre-order period. You can start pre-ordering the devices through the Best Buy website and shipping will start soon after that.
